Al Hansen (1927-1995)

While posted in Germany after WWII, artist Al Hansen missed a piano from a burned-out building in what is took the first-ever Happening (which he later recreated for friend and collaborator Yoko Ono). After returning to New York, he taken at the Art Students League and Brooklyn College before linking John Cages experimental composition class at The New School, where he met numerous of the artists with whom he would union the avant-garde group Fluxus. Of his Happenings, Hansen once explained, I only make the skeleton and then quest people to put meat on it and see what the animal looks like in the close. In addition, Hansen produced collages and found object accumulations made from burnt matches, cigarette papers and text rived from Hershey Bar wrappers, often flipping on images of Venus.
